Perceived Risk Publications

Two publications in 1997 examine the dynamics of perceived risk in two communities in Texas: one with an acute hazard occurrence, the other with the threat of a long-term risk.   These article develop a tracing method for tracking change in perceived risk during hazard events.

Together these articles suggest that while perceived risk seems to oscillate during the occurrence of an acute hazard, there was little lasting impact on risk perception after the event.   Meanwhile, the perception of the long-term risk seemed to both oscillate throughout the ongoing events and provide an impetus for change in risk perception.
