Profile


Dr. Boong Yeol Ryoo has a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering with specialized studies in Construction Engineering and Management and minored in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has more than eight years of industry experience in engineering and construction, six years of experience in the information technology industry, and fourteen years of research and teaching at leading universities in the United States and Korea.

He specializes in information technology such as information systems development, system integration, visualization, wireless/mobile devices and sensors, and robotics in the construction industry. System selection and integration methodologies are his specialty areas. He is also specialized in developing business procedure manuals, construction management procedure manuals and computerization.

He has successfully completed a number of research and development projects on information management systems for the construction industry. He has been a recipient of various government and industry funds in the field of information technology in construction where he has extensive experience in developing computer tools for both industrial and government projects.

He has served as an editorial board member and reviewer for seven international journals including Automation in Construction, one of the highest ranking journals in information technology in construction. He has served with more than 15 academic organizations in information technology and construction. He has 16 referred journal papers and 25 conference papers in the areas of construction management, automation, and information technology.  His recent research includes implementation of wireless/mobile sensors and construction management information systems.

He currently serves as Vice President for The RFID in Construction Consortium (http://www.rfidinconstruction.org/), is organized and operated under the auspices of The International RFID Business Association (http://www.rfidba.org/). The international Consortium advocates the safe and effective use of RFID and Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) technologies, sensors, and associated wireless-based technologies through quality, relevant, and timely educational programs designed to address the specific needs of the global construction industry.
